South Dakota Fishing Report – August 12, 2026 – video
The number of good walleyes being caught has definitely decreased because of the heat, but hopefully, expected cooler temps will improve the bite.

Winter defintely put the smack-down on fishing this past week with the heavy snow and strong winds. Getting around on area lakes has defintely gotten tougher after the snowfall, but not impossible.

It has been a cold one this week. Look to downsize and slow down presentations while we move through this cold front.

Lots to do here after the recent snowstorm – including ice fishing, with some good ice still out there. But stay away from the smaller lakes. And how about the northern pike bite.

Having trouble keeping up with the perch bite – for a while. But that’s the way it’s been all winter – hot and cold.

Different factors can affect your success rate, including your lure’s fall rate through the water, the color of the spoon and vibration.

Before the recent storm, plenty of people hit the ice looking for a little ‘eye action or a South Dakota gold. How about now?

During the late-ice period, remaining stealthy is more important than packing light.

We are halfway through February and the fishing remains good. Lots of ice and access is slowly improving.

It’s been up and down weather-wise of late. What’s that meant for the ice conditions and the bite.
