A huge bass fishing destination in the summer, Cossayuna – at nearly 4 miles long – has plenty of surface area for anglers to tackle any time of year, including through the ice.
And once you’re on the lake, there are plenty of fishing options, including panfish (pumpkinseeds, black crappies), yellow perch and chain pickerel.
Targeting rainbow and especially brown trout that are liberally stocked throughout the Delaware River watershed.
Given that it’s open year-round for fishing, it should seem appealing to ice anglers. It is, with a few catches.
When it comes to ice fishing, however, there is no shortage of hard-water options here in the Empire State, all destinations that are well-managed and easily accessed.
The most common fish species captured during 2020 survey activities included black crappie, bluegill, pumpkinseed and largemouth bass. Other species anglers may catch include yellow perch and brown bullhead.
