Getting ready for the late-afternoon/early-evening walleye bite on Lake Bemidji. You’ll want to get set up early. But it’s super-slick out on the ice, so be especially careful.

Overall, fishing reports have not been outstanding, but some walleyes and panfish are being caught. The best action is taking place early and late each day and expect everything to improve as ice conditions do.

Still not much ice out there – Lake Bemidji just isn’t ready for ice anglers yet. But next week is looking to be better for making ice. Smaller lakes, on the other hand … But

Upper Red Lake remains the main draw, but it’s likely that fishing activity is going to pick up on Lake of the Woods by this weekend as well.

A crazy flurry of catches, including a slab crappie and a bonus bass.

The ice anglers are out, and the crappies appear to be biting. But there’s not a whole lot of ice, so use special care.

There was a definite uptick in ice fishing action across the northern part of the state since last week.

There is ice starting to develop across the northern part of the state, while the lakes throughout the rest of Minnesota remained mostly ice-free this week.
