The Lake Erie Committee of the Great Lakes Fishery Commission agreed to a 20 percent increase in the total allowable catch for walleye and 13 percent for yellow perch.

Michigan’s unusual ice fishing season is hanging on in northern Michigan, with whitefish moving into the spotlight.

The DNR plans to collect approximately 50 million walleye eggs from the fishery in 2017, resulting in 14 million fry for transfer to rearing ponds and direct fry plants throughout the Lower Peninsula.

At Hard Water School, cancellation allows for more classwork time, allowing the instructors to go into more depth and to explore some additional subjects that would not have otherwise made the agenda.

Following the transfer, muskellunge fishing opportunities on both Thornapple Lake and Lake Hudson should continue to be excellent due to their initial high densities.
