Former DNR secretary and Wisconsin Wildlife Federation executive director George Meyer, 78, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 10, in Madison.
Meyer had been a Wisconsin conservation leader for more than 50 years. He worked as a Wisconsin DNR staff attorney from June 1972 through February 1980, then as the DNR’s Division of Enforcement Administrator from 1980 to 1993. Meyer served as the Wisconsin DNR secretary from 1993 to 2001.

A poaching case from Minnesota’s Douglas County that included charges of shooting deer at night over bait, illegally taking more than the allowed one buck per year, improper registration of deer, and unlawfully using other people’s tags wrapped up this fall.
