Mountain Top, N.Y. — The New York State Outdoor Writers Association will hold its annual conference this year May 7-10, in Greene and Columbia counties. Headquarters will be the Glen Falls House, an historic resort that sits on 47 acres of forestland in Mountain Top, in the northern Catskills.

NYSOWA President Deb Brosen, of Kinderhook in Columbia County, is serving as chairperson of the event.

Conference activities include turkey hunting and trout fishing nearby public lands, including the Catskill Forest Preserve.

A few writers will also sample striped bass fishing on the Hudson River.

On Friday, May 8, members will spend most of the day at the Glencadia Rod & Gun Club, in Stuyvesant, also in Columbia County where they will have a formal meeting with several staff members of the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation. At press time, it was expected that DEC Commissioner Amanda Lefton would take part in the session.

Later that day, the club will host a special chicken BBQ that will be open to the public providing sportsmen and women the opportunity to come together and celebrate the outdoors while enjoying great food. Doors will open to the public at 4 p.m. and attendees will be able to meet with members of NYSOWA, which include book authors and New York Outdoor News contributors.

Tickets for the chicken BBQ are available through April 28 and can be purchased at ticketstripe.com/NYSOWA-chickenBBQ or by calling 518-758-2904.

On Saturday, NYSOWA will hold its annual awards banquet at the Glen Falls House.
