Early emerging Michigan black bears prompt advisory

Once Michigan’s spring has sprung, there are a few things to count on – morel mushrooms, open water fishing, and wandering black bears top of the list.
The Michigan DNR made a point recently of reminding residents of pending movements by the state’s 12,000 or so black bears. It also noted that spring is a time when young cubs will be tagging along with adult bears.

Michigan conservation officers lauded for helping in rescue of stranded snowmobiler

Michigan conservation officers Cpl. Cole VanOosten and Justin Vinson responded on snowmobiles, from their residences, in whiteout storm conditions March 16 and helped deputies from the Luce County Sheriff’s Office rescue a stranded snowmobiler in remote northern Chippewa County.

The Buckeye Blast is back after a successful inaugural year.
The Light Foundation, co-founded by New England Patriots Hall of Famer and three-time Super Bowl champion Matt Light, will host its second annual fundraising event, The Buckeye Blast, on May 12, at Delaware, Ohio’s five-star Black Wing Shooting Center.

Pennsylvania court holds that solar ‘farms’ are not agriculture

In a recent decision, the Commonwealth Court of Pennsylvania held that agrivoltaics, commonly referred to as “solar farms,” do not constitute an agricultural use.
The case in Lancaster County, involved West Lampeter Solar 1, LLC v. West Lampeter Township Zoning Hearing Board. The decision is expected to have broader implications for Pennsylvania farmers seeking to modernize and further monetize their farming practices.
