St. Paul State turkey hunters taking to the field April 17 and thereafter are reminded that hunting hours this year are one-half hour before sunrise until 5 p.m. In previous years, the hunting day ended at noon.

Turkey hunters also are reminded that in addition to the wild turkey license they will need a 2002 Wild Turkey Stamp validation if they are 18 years or older or are nonresidents of any age. Brainerd, Minn. Minnesota’s grant-in-aid snowmobile trails closed April 1, despite a storm on that day that dumped measurable snow in many areas of the state.

All-terrain vehicle operators can’t turn in their snowmobile for their ATV, DNR officials say. ATVs aren’t allowed on the grant-in-aid trail system. They are allowed in roadside ditches and on designated ATV trails. Minnesota’s snowmobile system is built mostly on private property. It exists because landowners have agreed to allow only snowmobilers on their property.
