Minneapolis Thousands of anglers are expected for the 35th Annual Gander Mountain/MinnKota Crappie Contest, scheduled for April 27 on Lake Minnetonka.

The event is a fund-raiser for the Minnesota Chapter of Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Registration is available at any Gander Mountain store in the Twin Cities or St. Cloud. The fee is $5 at the stores or $6 the day of the event, which is headquartered at Lord Fletcher’s. Top prize in the adult division

St. Paul Applications for the 2002 Minnesota black bear hunting season now are being accepted by the Minnesota DNR through Friday, May 3.

This year, 20,610 licenses will be available in 11 permit areas. The season will run from Sept. 1 through Oct. 13. Applications can be made through the Electronic Licensing System and are available from 1,750 ELS agents throughout the state. Application also can be made by calling 1-888-MNLicense, or through the internet at www.dnr.state.mn.us.
