Pennsylvania’s Indian Orchard River Access on Lackawaxen River open

The Pennsylvania Fish & Boat Commission recently joined Wayne County commissioners, the Lackawaxen River Trails group and others to celebrate the opening of the new Indian Orchard River Access in Texas Township, Wayne County.
The access area features a concrete boat launch for canoes and kayaks, a paved access road and parking area, restroom, walking trail, and picnic areas for nature viewing along the Lackawaxen River.

Grant applications being accepted for watersheds in two Pennsylvania counties

The Pennsylvania Fish & Boat Commission is seeking proposals for projects that would be funded through the Tulpehocken and Quittapahilla Watershed Grant Program.
Projects eligible for this program must support aquatic habitat enhancement, recreational access, and water quality in the Tulpehocken Creek and Quittapahilla Creek watersheds in Berks and Lebanon counties and be located wholly within the watersheds.

Pennsylvania Fish & Boat Commission awards R3 education grants to 17 fishing groups

The Fish & Boat Commission announced Sept. 9 that it has awarded $196,832 in grant funding through its R3 Education Grant Program.
Through this program, the commission will support 16 education projects in 10 counties to promote new and renewed interest in fishing and boating in Pennsylvania through the recruit ment of new participants, retention of existing participants, and reactivation of former participants – collectively known as “R3.”

Rattlesnake survey serves as officer training for Pennsylvania Fish & Boat Commission

The Pennsylvania Fish & Boat Commission recently conducted a timber rattlesnake survey in an undisclosed part of Clearfield County.
The location of the survey is kept a secret to protect timber rattlesnakes from unlawful activity including poaching. The known breeding habitat is a rocky portion of forest that is visited once annually by the agency’s biologists to monitor the abundant population of the native species of venomous snakes.
