Pennsylvania commission awards 16 grants to boating facilities

The  Pennsylvania Fish & Boat Commission, during the agency’s recent quarterly meeting, awarded several grants through its Boating Facility Grant Program.
Funds for this program are derived primarily from boat registration fees, state motorboat fuels tax and restricted revenue accounts, if applicable. In certain instances, federal aid is also used, if appropriate.

Walnut Creek Marina in Erie County, Pa., undergoing repairs

With the busy spring boating season underway, the Pennsylvania Fish & Boat Commission is alerting boaters and other visitors to Walnut Creek Marina, Erie County, that several maintenance projects remain underway at the facility.
While sand-removal operations and dredging within the marina basin have been completed, additional dredging will continue within the marina channel over the next two weeks.

Partnership leads to stocked trout in Pennsylvania’s Venango County

The Pennsylvania Fish & Boat Commission on May 2 partnered with the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission to stock 1,500 trout into Oil Creek around the Drake Well Museum and Park historical site in Venango County.
The leaders of each agency said they are looking for ways to serve their common audiences. Along with attracting history buffs and school groups to northwestern Pennsylvania to learn about the region’s oil boom that began in the late 1850s, neighboring Oil Creek attracts anglers, fly-fishermen and kayakers from across the state.

Video: 4,700 rainbows stocked in Pennsylvania’s Frances Slocum Lake

The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission (PFBC) stocked approximately 4,700 Rainbow and golden Rainbow Trout at Frances Slocum Lake in Luzerne County this week.  
Because the lake remains frozen, a hole had to be cut into the ice so the trout could be stocked using a hose connected to the hatchery truck. Some of the larger trophy-sized fish were placed in the lake using nets.

Fishing regulations to change at Lower Woods Pond in Wayne County, Pa.

Pennsylvania Fish & Boat commissioners voted to approve a change in fishing regulations at Lower Woods Pond, a Fish & Boat Commission lake located in Lebanon Township, Wayne County.
Under this changes, the 91-acre impoundment will be removed from the Big Bass program to allow for management under the Catch and Release Lakes program, which was approved by the board during the commission’s July 2024 quarterly business meeting.

Pennsylvania Fish & Boat Commission is recruiting new class of officer trainees

The State Civil Service Commission will accept applications through Feb. 3. The class of trainees will undergo a comprehensive training program at various training sites in the commonwealth, including the commission’s H.R. Stackhouse School of Fishery Conservation and Watercraft Safety in Bellefonte, Centre County.

Pennsylvania Fish & Boat Commission offers new, low-cost online boating safety course

The Pennsylvania Fish & Boat Commission recently announced the availability of a new, low-cost online boating safety education course.
The course, offered in partnership with the nonprofit BoatUS Foundation for Boating Safety and Clean Water, is available for $17 and is approved by both the National Association of State Boating Law Administrators and recognized by the United States Coast Guard.
