The Maryland Department of Natural Resources recently recognized Thomas Dembeck Jr. as the new state record holder for yellow perch – Perca flavescens.
Dembeck, of Hydes, Md., caught the 2.3-pound, 16-inch fish on Feb. 7 while fishing in the tidal waters of the lower Susquehanna River.

The Maryland Department of Natural Resources recognized David Confair, of Secretary, in Dorchester County, as a new state record holder for longnose gar.
Confair caught the 20.5-pound, 49.5-inch fish on Feb. 8 while fishing in Marshyhope Creek. He was fishing the bottom of the creek in about 15 feet of water with a two-hook sabiki rig with No. 4 hooks and small cut pieces of gizzard shad.

Dombrowski’s qualifying catches, in order, were: Bullhead catfish – 17 inches, sheepshead – 23 inches, carp – 39 inches, bluefish- 34 inches, striped bass – 47 inches, thresher shark – 91 inches, sand tiger shark – 70 inches, red drum – 43 inches, largemouth bass – 23 inches and bluefin tuna – 66 inches.

Luca Tucciarella, of Forest Hill, has earned a Master Angler Milestone Award under the Maryland Department of Natural Resources’ FishMaryland program.
Fifteen-year-old Tucciarella is the 16th Master Angler and the third youth angler to reach the milestone award since the program began in 2019. The award recognizes recreational anglers who catch 10 trophy-sized fish of different species in Maryland.

The Maryland Department of Natural Resources recently announced results of this year’s juvenile striped bass survey, which tracks the reproductive success of Maryland’s state fish in the Chesapeake Bay.
The 2024 young-of-year index is 2.0, well below the long-term average of 11.0, and marks the sixth consecutive year of poor reproduction.
