Minnesota’s shotgun zone for deer likely to remain as House, Senate strike bargain on environment, natural resources supplemental spending bill

New ways for dealing with waste ­— packaging, boat wrap, outdated electronics, sewer sludge and heat — are included in a conference committee agreement on the environment and natural resources supplemental budget bill.
Not included in the final agreement are provisions that would modify shotgun zones, require trappers get permission to trap on private land, prohibit planting corn on state land, and separate proceeds from habitat license plates into different funds.

Dog breeder data no longer private under proposed legislation in Minnesota

A commonsense consumer benefit or a license to harass? That’s the question at the heart of a Minnesota bill to make data about licensed dog and cat breeders more publicly available.
Sponsored by Rep. Mike Freiberg, DFL-Golden Valley, HF 3410 would give the public access to commercial cat and dog breeder licensing information that is now considered private. This would include the number of animals kept and recent inspection reports.
