A little redemption in the Ohio whitetail woods for this nonresident

As someone who lives outside Ohio, I consider myself lucky to have had the opportunity to hunt on private land in the Buckeye State for the past decade.
My hunting experiences have taken me to Holmes, Coshocton, Tuscarawas, Scioto, and Gallia counties. Based on what I have seen, whitetail deer hunting south of Interstate 30 in Ohio rivals any spot in the Midwest. While I have enjoyed many successful hunts in Ohio over the years, the 2024/2025 season did not go my way.

Bob Vogel: Ohio is my favorite whitetail hunting destination, despite a tough 2024 season

As a lifelong resident of Michigan, I have hunted the Wolverine State for more than 40 years. I have been fortunate to chase whitetails across the United States, Canada, and Mexico. However, my favorite whitetail hunting destination is Ohio.
I first hunted the Buckeye State 10 years ago. On that initial trip, a friend invited me to hunt with his family on their property in Coshocton County. As usual, I had only a couple of days set aside for this muzzleloader hunt.

Hunters Helping Lenawee initiative helping feed those needing help in Michigan

It is said that hunters are our nation’s largest group of conservationists. Hunters in Lenawee County Michigan are helping to affirm that statement.
Lenawee County is nestled between Monroe and Hillsdale counties bordering Ohio in southeast Michigan.
This area of Michigan boasts the highest volume of land under till in the state. The harvest of corn and soybeans in these counties often leads the state in grain production. Lenawee County’s abundant crops help grow large numbers of and large bodied white-tailed deer.

Veterans enjoy the fruits of a pheasant hunt with Michigan’s Sam Beauford Woodworking Institute

Sometimes, hunting and fishing opportunities arise at unusual places. Take the Sam Beauford Woodworking Institute for instance.
The SBWI is a not-for-profit organization located in Adrian, Mich. Its curriculum is as varied as its students, who sometimes incorporate hunting and fishing opportunities into their activities.
The Institute offers a full-time accredited course in furniture-making and design, but also offers short courses in wood bending, wood turning, chair and table making, timber framing, and many more.
