For first time, DNR tags carp in bid to learn more about invasive fish

Minnesota DNR fisheries specialists implant a tag in a bighead carp captured July 28 in Minnesota. Two fishermen recently caught a 45-pound bighead carp while bowfishing on the Missouri side of Bull Shoals Lake. (Minnesota DNR)

The Minnesota Legislature granted the agency the authority to use tagging as a research tool. Legislative approval was needed because the agency is putting an invasive species back into the water for a period of weeks.
