A proposal to hold the 2027 Carp World Championship on Onondaga Lake in Syracuse has been scrapped.
“I’ll be careful with my words. All in all, it just didn’t work out,” said Mike McNett, treasurer and freshwater sports director for the U.S. Angling Confederation.
The competition, pegged as “the Olympics of Carp Fishing,” would have featured some 150 anglers from more than two dozen countries. It would have been the first time the event would have been held in this country.
