Waterfowlers in Michigan eagerly are awaiting Sept. 1 and the start of the early goose season.
The season targets resident Canada geese – those that don’t migrate far and spend their lives here in Michigan – that have become problematic in many locations. These geese are highly successful at raising a brood while nesting in suburbia. The conflict with geese and state residents prompted wildlife managers to create a special season decades ago to target nuisance geese.
