Michigan lawmakers demand federal action on cormorants

Michigan lawmakers have been calling on Congress to take action aimed at addressing what they describe as growing problems associated with increasing numbers of double-crested cormorants.
Michigan State Reps. Ken Borton, R-Gaylord, and Alicia St. Germaine, R-Harrison Township, introduced a resolution at the state level urging Congress to advance legislation establishing new tools for managing cormorant populations. Borton said large concentrations of the fish-eating birds can create problems for fisheries.
