Illinois deer hunters are seeing bobcats far more often than they did two decades ago, and DNR is using those observations to help track the species’ continuing recovery.
Meanwhile, for hunters hoping to pursue an actual bobcat during the upcoming season, the deadline to apply for a permit is Sept. 30. The modern Illinois bobcat season is built and has been growing on decades of research and monitoring, including university studies and the previously mentioned deer hunter survey.
