Pennsylvania hunters donate record number of deer last season

Pennsylvania hunters once again demonstrated their generosity by setting another record for unmatched venison donations through Hunters Sharing the Harvest, the group announced in late July.

Pennsylvania unveils new plan for public fishing and boating access

The Pennsylvania Fish & Boat Commission and the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources on Aug. 13 announced a new, collaborative statewide public fishing and boating access strategy.
The strategy provides a clear blueprint for state agencies and their partner organizations to follow as they develop, plan, and enhance public access opportunities in their communities.

New Pennsylvania bill would further limit game wardens in regards to entering private property

A recently introduced bill in the state Senate would restrict the abilities of Pennsylvania Game Commission game wardens from entering private property beyond the recent Pennsylvania Supreme Court ruling gutting the Open Fields Doctrine here.
Sen. Dan Laughlin, R-Erie, introduced Senate Bill 1431 on Aug. 11 that would require commission officers to have a warrant to enter any property, posted or not, outside of buildings.

Notes off a soiled cuff: Trying to make sense of decision to end Pennsylvania’s deputy law enforcement programs

After decades covering public policymaking related to hunting, fishing and natural resources management in Pennsylvania, when an unpopular decision is made that makes no sense to me, I always figure there are things I don’t know. Rarely are decision-makers initially candid about their motivations. And so it is with the Game and Fish & Boat commissions’ recent decision to jointly eliminate their deputy law enforcement officers.

Labs, the most popular bird dog in America, have an interesting past

The Labrador retriever is as expected a sight in a duck boat as a bag of decoys would be. Their place in the waterfowl world, as well as the upland world, is pretty much unrivaled.
They generally find their way into more human-assistance roles than any other breed out there. Anyone who has owned a Labrador knows why this is. But they may not know the breed’s whole history, which is pretty incredible.
