The 2026 Minnesota Outdoor News Outdoor Leaders Award recipient: Backcountry Hunters & Anglers

It started with one conversation at a pint night.
The Minnesota chapter of Backcountry Hunters and Anglers (BHA-MN) regularly hosts gatherings around the state to connect with deer hunters about Minnesota’s deer herd and the impact of chronic wasting disease.
“A member said they wanted to clean up some long neglected public land near Grand Rapids and that led to a project,” said BHA-MN Chapter Chair Chance Adams. “We sent out an email inviting people and we had 20 people come out, including some kids and spouses, to spend a few hours on a Saturday picking up 1,500 pounds of trash, old shotgun shells, and spent ammunition.”
