Minnesota conservation officer shoots off trap to free young black bear

Minnesota Conservation Officer Jayson Hansen had to get created and use his marksmanship training to free a black bear that got itself stuck in a trap outside a chicken coop. (Stock photo)

Conservation Officer Jayson Hansen freed a young black bear trapped outside a Bigfork-area chicken coop May 22 by disabling the trap with carefully placed rifle shots.
Hansen received a call that evening from a middle-aged woman in the Bigfork area after a bear became caught in a trap she had set near the coop. The homeowner said she had recently had skunks bothering her chickens.
