Minnesota’s muskellunge season opens statewide June 6, while anglers and fishery managers scrutinize a new long-range plan to restore trophy fishing in the state.
Historically, Minnesota waters ranked among the best muskie fisheries in the nation. The sport’s popularity peaked during the early 2000s and into the 2010s, though anglers say opportunities have declined in recent years. Jim Doyle, president of the Twin Cities chapter of Muskies Inc., expects the season likely will begin slowly because of cooler conditions earlier this spring.
