Pennsylvania’s estimated deer harvest up 6% in ’25-26; archers lead buck take

Pennsylvania hunters harvested about 6% more deer in the 2025-26 hunting seasons than they did the year before, according to Pennsylvania Game Commission estimates.
The statewide 2025-26 deer harvest was estimated at 505,600 deer, 185,310 of them antlered and 320,290 antlerless. By comparison, the statewide 2024-25 harvest was estimated at 476,880 deer.

More public lands approved for fracking in Ohio

Despite 1,337 public comments against the move, the Ohio Oil and Gas Land Management Commission opened 513 additional acres of Salt Fork State Park in Guernsey County and 8,233 additional acres of Egypt Valley Wildlife Area in Belmont and Guernsey counties to leasing by oil and gas companies.
The decision came during the commission’s March 27 meeting.

Minnesota’s bear hunt lottery applications now open through May 1

Prospective bear hunters have until Friday, May 1, to apply for a bear hunting license from the Minnesota DNR.
Hunters can submit applications for the 2026 season online, at any license agent or by phone at 888-665-4236. People can apply for preference only, which will accrue a preference point to increase preference level for future years’ bear hunt lotteries.

Snow in forecast could help Prairie Pothole Region ducks

Mostly dry wetland conditions across the U.S. and Canadian prairies could diminish spring duck production without significant precipitation falling over the next few weeks as birds settle across Minnesota and the Dakotas.
