The Minnesota DNR reported rising elk populations in northwest Minnesota following its annual aerial survey.
DNR staff conducted surveys by air in late January, flying transect lines over survey areas and counting bulls and cows within designated blocks. The results show growth across all three of the state’s elk populations, with one nearing its population goal.
