Ryan Rothstein: Don’t underestimate the power of good deer moms

In my last column, I wrote a bit about a unique doe that I’ve been following for the past four years. She’s got a split left ear that you can’t miss, and she’s been a fun gal to follow ever since I first noticed it. She’s at least 5.5 years old based on my history with her, but she could easily be older.
She’s been an interesting case study. After all, how many does are unique enough that you can truly be sure they are the same animal?

Wisconsin Wardens at Work: Trout anglers survive chilly Devil’s Lake plunge

Wisconsin DNR Field Warden Andrew Amundsen’s first station, after spending several months working in the DNR’s community service area, was at Devil’s Lake State Park in Sauk County. For many upland hunters, the late winter signals a seasonal reset here in Minnesota.
While ambitious hunters perhaps found adventure in the Dakotas, Iowa, Nebraska, and even Kansas throughout all, or parts, of January, those opportunities have come and gone as well. Big shows with big lineups: 2026 ATA and SHOT Show review

The Archery Trade Association (ATA) Show and Shooting, Hunting, and Outdoor Trade (SHOT) Show just finished up, and Outdoor News had staff on the ground and noses to the air to find out what the latest and greatest products will be for 2026.
Outdoor News’ Sales and Marketing Director Brian Knutson, attended SHOT, and reported that safety and security where in the hot lanes for growth.
