DNR reported that a hunter-harvested deer in Gladwin County tested positive for CWD, meaning Michigan now has 18 counties with a positive case.
In all, 376 CWD-positive deer have been confirmed in Michigan – that from roughly 148,800 tested deer.

Public forums are being held in many counties across central and southern Minnesota right now as county board members hear from constituents regarding the use of rifles for deer hunting in what were previously shotgun zones.
It’s a safe bet that some of those meetings have been more contentious than what took place in Alexandria on the evening of Feb. 18. The five Douglas County commissioners did not vote on the issue, but what they heard from the more than 20 people who spoke was overwhelming support of implementing rifles for deer hunting county-wide.
Last summer, when longtime Becoming an Outdoors Woman Coordinator Linda Bylander retired, experienced DNR state park naturalist Linda Radimecky stepped into the role. She says it has felt like a natural fit.
“I taught a lot of fly-fishing classes and knot-tying classes, and survival kind of stuff, so I knew the programming for a long time,” Radimecky said.
On this Monday night, I’m settled into the recliner, with the wood stove hissing, temperatures outside in the teens and dropping, watching Indiana and Miami battle it out for college football’s national championship.
My wife, Paula, has other plans, and has left the house to drive up the road a mile or so, away from our home and others in the neighborhood, seeking total darkness, or something close to it. “The lights” may be happening tonight.

It’s been the Super Bowl for Ohio ice anglers on north central Ohio’s Indian Lake this winter.
