A once-popular southern Illinois destination for anglers and hunters from northern parts of the state is expected to reopen in 2027, a progress report by DNR and area lawmakers suggests.
Rend Lake Resort, originally opened in 1990, closed in December 2016 due to issues with mold, health concerns, and lease payment delinquency. The resort, located on the shores of Rend Lake at Wayne Fitzgerrell State Recreation Area, had been falling into disrepair for years before DNR terminated the lease with the resort’s operator on Dec. 18, 2016.
