Deer hunting season in New York reaches its zenith when the Southern Zone regular season begins Saturday, Nov. 15. It is the state’s busiest hunting day of the year, and busiest hunting weekend overall.
With the opener comes a series of changes for hunters this season. Most notably, the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation’s conversion to E-tags. No longer do big game (deer, bear) and turkey hunters need to attach a paper tag to the carcass as long as they remain in possession of it in their residence or vehicle.
