Smoke from the fire drifted up through the pines and disappeared into the darkness, a brook trout caught earlier in the day sizzled over the flames while I sat with a Colt Kodiak in a holster on my hip, this hunt just felt different.
Sleeping under the stars without another person around for miles somehow felt reassuring. I guess it should have, since that was the plan all along.
