Wisconsin’s Greenhead Hunting Club closes boat launch on Horicon Marsh after realizing it owned the property

The Greenhead Hunting Club has closed its Greenhead boat launch on the east side of the state-managed part of Horicon Marsh in Dodge County, Wis.
A temporary launch has been established by the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) and plans are being made for a permanent replacement. The Greenhead Hunting Club launch has been open to the public for decades going back to the 1940s. It is listed on some DNR maps and literature as a public launch, and many people assumed it was owned by the DNR.

Latest estimate indicates Wisconsin has more than 1,200 timber wolves

Wisconsin’s wolf population is likely as high as it has ever been after roughly 300 breeding females gave birth this past spring, considering the state’s late-winter population estimate is now at 1,200 animals.
Wolf litters average about five or six pups, but past research has shown that more than half of those pups don’t survive their first year. Disease, accidents, starvation and being killed by other wolves or predators are among the mortality factors.

New York’s Cayuga County wind turbine project being scrutinized

A wind farm project planned for two towns in Cayuga County, N.Y., and designed to generate up to 99 megawatts of electricity is also generating backlash over potential impacts on the environment and wildlife.
Liberty Renewables, an Albany-based company that “aims to develop, construct and operate renewable energy projects that are environmentally, socially and economically valuable,” according to the firm’s website, has set its sights on the towns of Scipio and Venice for its latest endeavor.
