Pro Hunting Tip of the Week: Check recent clearings for early ruffed grouse

Alice Wiese says early-season success this Minnesota grouse hunting season has come from focusing on lowland areas, such as swamp edges and recent clearings.

During our outings so far this season, we’ve encountered plenty of opportunities for ruffed grouse. However, with the foliage still being much intact, it has made the shots less than ideal. As we dust off our wingshooting skills, we’ve noticed many juvenile birds, indicating a successful hatch this year.
