Come September, I wanted to go hunting more than anything else. Getting a license at age 10, I hunted every week. Squirrel season opened first, and lasted until the other big event in my young life, opening day of rabbit and pheasant season.
Squirrels were scarce within walking distance of the house. No problem, I headed out with my prized possession, a decrepit $2 yard sale .22.
