When the power went out and the warning sirens blared early on the morning of June 21 in northwestern Minnesota, all who were paying attention to the oncoming storm were prepared to head to their basements or some other secure location.
Beltrami County sustained the bulk of the storm’s fury during its rampage through Minnesota. No one knows exactly how many trees were felled by the sustained Category 3 hurricane-velocity gales that tore through the Bemidji, but no one would be surprised if the count exceeded a million.
