Nonresident deer poachers ordered to pay nearly $120,000 in southern Illinois

Five men from Mississippi were sentenced in southern Illinois federal court between September 4, 2024, and July 9, 2025. The men had not obtained non-resident hunting licenses and admitted to using spotlights to illegally take white-tailed deer in Massac, Jefferson, Union, Pope and Clark counties.

Around here, we dedicate a lot of our time and space to youth hunting and fishing – hardly an issue flies off our press without a few photos of an Illinois kid holding a bass or kneeling over a wild turkey.

New York DEC offers tips when encountering bear and moose

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation recently closed Goodman Mountain in the town of Tupper Lake due to the presence of a bull moose observed over an extended period of time.
Just prior to press time the agency reported the moose was still in the area and the trail was still closed, and advised the public to stay clear of the area as it is suspected the moose may have some form of illness.
