Illinois Mixed Bag: Two Rivers Family Fishing Fair set for June 7

Participating children will find a catch-and-release bluegill pond, where young anglers can have their photograph taken with their catch. The popular One-Cast station ensures everyone wins a prize. And bow-fishing stations offer youth an opportunity to shoot at moving targets in a pool or at a three-dimensional target.

Illinois bills involving deer sharpshooting program, landowner permits expected to be signed into law

Measures designed to give hunters a bigger role in managing the state’s deer herd passed both chambers of the Illinois General Assembly by unanimous votes.
House Bill 2339, which requires DNR to end its sharpshooting program used to manage CWD if no cases have been found in the previous three calendar years, and House Bill 2340, which makes landowner deer permits more accessible in counties where CWD has been found, both passed on May 21.

North Branch of Callicoon Creek: Wild and stocked options near Pennsylvania and New York border

Callicoon Creek’s North Branch is, in many ways, two trout streams in one. And these days New York DEC fishing regulations support that, designating separate stretches and stocking only one area of the Sullivan County water.
Anglers have the option of pursuing either wild or stocked trout, and in some stretches both, with the 10.7-mile-long tributary to Callicoon Creek offering five miles of fishing access through the state’s Public Fishing Rights program.
