Wisconsin Wildlife Federation honors George Meyer for his advocacy of threatened greater prairie chickens

The Wisconsin Wildlife Federation (WWF) recognized George Meyer’s efforts on behalf of greater prairie chickens and the Buena Vista State Wildlife Area with a bench and plaque that will be placed at the wildlife area. Meyer, former DNR secretary, longtime WWF executive director and overall Wisconsin conservation champion, is pictured with Connie Polzin, WWF past president, at this year’s WWF annual convention. George Meyer might be retired, but he’s not tired. Well, at least not too tired after 50 years of working conservation causes to challenge what conservation groups see as inadequacies in a proposed 9,000-acre solar farm to be placed right next to the Buena Vista State Wildlife Area in the towns of Plover and Grant in Portage County.
Meyer has guided the Wisconsin Wildlife Federation (WWF) and Dane County Conservation League (DCCL) through almost two years worth of legal hurdles on this project involving Vista Sands Solar, LLC, and its application to the state’s Public Service Commission.
