Tom Venesky: Anecdotal signs point to good turkey numbers in Pennsylvania

Could it be that the increase in seeing dead turkeys along the roads mean that there are simply more turkeys, and why are they getting hit on the roads, the columnist wonders. (Stock photo)

During a recent drive across Pennsylvania on Interstate 80, I noticed quite a few roadkills.
But they weren’t deer. Through a nearly 40-mile stretch of the interstate – from Danville to Loganton  – I counted five dead turkeys along the road. Further west, from Snowshoe to Clearfield, I spotted three more along the interstate, for a total of eight.
