The first week to 10 days of New York’s spring gobbler season is pretty much my favorite. And for a lot of reasons. The chance for success is surely one of them as – especially in recent years – luck has come my way early on. But it goes well beyond that.
It starts simply with the anticipation and excitement that comes with the beginning of any season. Once I became a dedicated turkey hunter, May 1 was a date that didn’t even have to be circled on the calendar.
