Dan Ladd: Hoping the New York legislature doesn’t cry wolf

In the April 4 edition of New York Outdoor News we touched on a number of sporting-related legislative items that may or may not progress through the state’s political chamber this year. Among them is A01229/S05402, a bill designed to protect potentially migrating wolves in New York.
This proposed legislation obviously stems from the fact that a wolf was killed by a New York hunter late in 2021 who had mistaken it for a large coyote, something that hadn’t happened – or at least had not been documented – in nearly two decades.

Patrick Durkin: Wisconsin’s Conservation Congress struggles, but no worse than state legislature

A good friend gets a little testy whenever he starts talking about Wisconsin’s annual spring conservation hearings. Once he gets rolling, he starts blowing snot bubbles.

My buddy thinks the CC is the worst idea Aldo Leopold ever spawned or supported. And man, was Leopold a thinker.

Fishing for springtime panfish can be super productive with the right plan

Marcy West won’t seek second term on Wisconsin Natural Resources Board

Marcy West, Wisconsin Natural Resources Board (NRB) member from Vernon County, announced at the board’s April 9 meeting that she is ending her position on the board.
West was nominated to serve on the board by Gov. Tony Evers in February 2020 to fill a vacant position previously held by Fred Clark.
“I did not request reappointment and my term is up May 1,” she told the board.
