Dan Ladd: Hunters, anglers and New York’s new DEC commissioner will need to get to know each other

After a year with interim DEC Commissioner Sean Mahar at the helm following Basil Seggos’ resignation, New York Gov. Kathy Hochul recently nominated Amanda Lefton to lead the agency. It is assumed the legislature will eventually confirm Lefton.
For New York’s sporting community – those of us who hunt, fish, trap and enjoy recreational shooting – it was hoped that our next commissioner would have a solid fish and wildlife background.
