Taste of the Wild: Turkey vegetable wild rice soup

When you harvest your spring turkey, you’ll want to tap this recipe to use those extra bits and pieces of meat you can salvage from cooking down the carcass of the bird – an opportunity you never want to bypass.
You will need approximately 2 cups of cooked turkey meat for this recipe. A time-saving tip is to use pre-cooked canned wild rice, but using that stock from cooking down your turkey carcass instead of water brings depth to the flavor when you prepare the wild rice in advance of putting this soup together.

Court ruling on ‘corner crossing’ case a win for hunters, anglers and all public-land users

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit on March 18 affirmed the public’s right to “corner-cross” to access public lands.
Missoula, Mont.-based Backcountry Hunters and Anglers called the ruling a pivotal decision that cements the legality of public access to millions of acres of public lands in the West. Corner crossing refers to stepping from one piece of public land to another over a corner shared with private land.

At age 22, Minnesota’s Easton Fothergill breaks records, makes history with Bassmaster Classic win

Nineteen months ago, Easton Fothergill was lying on a gurney in an Alabama hospital, awaiting surgery to remove an infected abscess from his brain.
Sunday afternoon, in front of thousands of fans at Dickies Arena, Fothergill stood tall as champion of the 2025 Bass Pro Shops Bassmaster Classic presented by Under Armour.  Fothergill, a 22-year-old native of Grand Rapids, Minn., finished the three-day event on Lake Ray Roberts in Texas with a total of 15 bass for 76 pounds, 15 ounces. It was the biggest winning weight in the 55-year history of the most prestigious fishing tournament in the world.

Ryan Rothstein: Out-of-state whitetail tags getting harder and harder to come by

If you’re even a casual out-of-state deer hunter, you’ve probably heard about western states further limiting nonresident tags and some states restricting nonresident use of public lands.
As a self-professed Western hunting addict, I’ve been closely following these issues, which have been rapidly coming to a head in recent years.
