Vertical jigging is a great way to go for big lakers

In the mid 1800s, an angler in the Finger Lake region of Upstate New York would come up with a method to catch lake trout in deep water. Avid angler Seth Green would devise a system to catch the often-deep lake trout, which would turn out to be the predecessor to today’s popular downrigger.
Green invented a method where he would row a boat with two rods trolling for lake trout.

A little pre-season scouting can go a long way toward a filled turkey tag

It wasn’t that long ago when the notion of patterning turkeys would have earned you some strange looks. The dominant hunting styles used to be to either roost a bird and work him specifically at sunrise, or to just head afield and let the gobbles direct you.

Michigan Natural Resources Commission sets bear license quotas, tweaks rules

The Michigan Natural Resources Commission in March approved new bear hunting quotas and regulations for the next two-year regulation cycle.
Feedback from concerned hunters convinced Department of Natural Resources officials to reduce initial proposed license increases in the northern Lower Peninsula, resulting in five fewer licenses to produce a 17% reduction in the desired harvest.
“Basically, the license quotas for Red Oak and Baldwin (Bear Management Units) now are the same as the last two years,” DNR Bear Specialist Cody Norton told Michigan Outdoor News.

Innovation typically occurs when there is a necessity or when it increases the efficiency of a process. Fifty or 60 years ago, nobody dreamed we would have tablets, earpiece communicators or smartphones that have more computing power than NASA had when it sent astronauts to the moon.
Hunting and fishing are not exempt from this trend either.
