A little pre-season scouting can go a long way toward a filled turkey tag

It wasn’t long ago that the notion of scouting turkeys in the pre-season would have been almost laughable. Today, with hunters often relegated to smaller acreage and given the prevalence of pop-up blinds, it’s a different story. (Contributed photos)

It wasn’t that long ago when the notion of patterning turkeys would have earned you some strange looks. The dominant hunting styles used to be to either roost a bird and work him specifically at sunrise, or to just head afield and let the gobbles direct you.
As bowhunting birds has become more popular, and hunting blinds have replaced putting our backs against trees, this has changed.
