Ohio firefighers helped in Western wildfires

A nine-person crew from the ODNR agency were recently dispatched to California to battle a wildfire in Cleveland National Forest. Crews from other states, including Montana, Nevada, Colorado, and Texas were also on hand to battle the blaze. (Photo courtesy ODNR)

Mid-journey, they learned their destination would be the 460,000- acre Cleveland National Forest. It lies northeast of San Diego in rugged, mountainous country. Their job was to assume the responsibilities of the forest’s regular staff that had been dispatched to fight an active fire elsewhere.
