I was more than a little surprised by the number of readers who called or emailed to ask how Rick Sievert, of Rhinelander, could shoot two Oneida County bucks with an air rifle during the gun and muzzleloader seasons.
I received 13 calls or emails regarding photos of Sievert with a Nov. 25 8-point buck in the Feb. 21 issue and a Dec. 5 12-point buck on Page 32 of the same issue. I’m a little surprised readers connected the two photos. We had three full pages of reader photos in that print issue. I read each of those captions on the three pages and did not make the connection, although I’m scanning for errors, not looking to see who shot or caught what.

For more than 65 years, TNC’s Minnesota-North Dakota-South Dakota chapter has collaborated with partners, private landowners, and native nations to protect and restore the grasslands, forests, and fresh water that define this region.
The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation recently submitted its annual report on junior hunting to both the New York State Senate and Assembly. The report, entitled “Deer Hunting by 12- and 13-Year-Old Hunters in 2024,” summarizes the current junior hunting program as well as the 2024-25 hunting seasons, and also makes recommendations for the future.

For those willing to try, the equipment and information on how to reload is better than ever. Most of the information is reliable.
