Minnesota’s archery community has a new support and advocacy group: the Minnesota Bowhunters Association.
Rolled out in January to promote bowhunting and archery across the state, the new nonprofit organization based in Grand Rapids has a stated mission to “unite and empower bowhunters, foster inclusivity, and promote the sport of bowhunting.”

Minnesota’s Senate Environment, Climate, and Legacy Committee on Feb. 4 supported S.F. 689, which would allow youth hunters to start earning preference points for black bear hunting before they turn 10 years old – the age at which they’re allowed to hunt bears.
While the proposed bill doesn’t offer an age at which young hunters may begin to apply to receive preference points before their 10th birthday, bill author Sen. Nathan Wesenberg, R-Little Falls, estimated it takes around five or six preference points to earn a tag.
For the past decade, the number of new aquatic invasive species-infested waters in Minnesota has fluctuated anywhere from 87 in 2018 to 41 in 2024. This past year marked the lowest number of new bodies of water added to the list since 2011 – the same year watercraft inspectors were permitted to examine boats.
But individuals and groups that work to combat AIS say the progress they see is at risk.
