Illinois DNR assumes two acres vital to carp project

The Environmental Protection Agency published a notice of a proposed settlement with the Illinois DNR concerning property at the heart of the Brandon Road Interbasin Project, which is designed to stop invasive carp from moving into Lake Michigan from the Mississippi River and its tributaries.
The settlement calls for the Illinois DNR to take title to approximately 2.32 acres at 1800 Channahon Road in Joliet. The property’s current owner is Midwest Generation (MW), a Chicago-based utility.

Ralph Loos: Illinois hunters have mixed opinions on timing of spring light goose season

I spent a few days in late January at my family’s farm in Perry County, Ill., where I once again found several 40-acre corn stubble fields filled with snow geese.
Flocks made up of thousands of birds were rotating in and out of stalks, occasionally taking flight over surrounding coal mine land and water-filled strip pits dotting the area. There was no reason for me to be surprised – light geese have been wintering on fields there for decades.

Commentary: When it comes to access, anglers are sometimes our own worst enemy

Recently, I was scanning articles on IceShanty.com when I came across a thread titled – “Nys Locks To Be Posted”
The claim (and it’s true) is New York State Canals and NYPA have restricted access to the Oswego River via Lock 7 and that the restriction(s) were going to spread to other canal property. The claimed cause for the closure – “… has nothing to do with fishermen, it has to do with destruction of property and homeless encampment…”.
These restrictions will have a significant impact on salmon fishing in Oswego.
