John Tertuliani: River fishing one last time before winter sets in is good for the soul

The farther away you fish from large areas of deep water, the smaller the fish you tend to catch. The same stretch in the spring can be vastly different from what you find late in the fall. (Photo by John Tertuliani)

River reconnaissance is my idea of R and R. No actual recon is in order, not for the Scioto River in Ohio. Flowing close to home, I know it well. Come December, I want to be out in the water one last time. Winter is about to seize it until spring. I need to know if this is it.
Flowing water has always appealed to me. Standing in it for long periods has become a source of healing. Having the water to myself, me and the animals, a time for reflection.
