With budget surplus expected, Minnesota’s Outdoor Heritage Fund has extra $7 million

Based on the November state forecast budget, the Lessard-Sams Outdoor Heritage Council will end the year with more money to distribute than anticipated.
The council will receive an additional $7.06 million, which will be disbursed to various projects that were approved earlier in the year. That addition will bring the council’s spending power to about $168 million for its project recommendations.

“I would really like to get the boughs and tree for the deck before the weather turns on us,” I told my husband Stan as we headed into the weekend before Wisconsin’s deer season.

Fish biologists, charter school students tackle muskie, pike project on Wisconsin’s Spider Lake

What do charter school students, Wisconsin DNR fish biologists, financial donors, muskies, and northern pike have in common?
A new study taking place on Spider Lake in Sawyer County that will take a closer look at the interactions between those two fish species, with much of the work being done by students from two Northwoods charter schools under the guidance and assistance of Hayward DNR fisheries team members.
